THIERRY MUGLER
Wednesday, September 15th, 2010
Thierry Mugler’s label was a cult icon through the ’80s and ’90s (essentially, the golden fashion era of runway excess and supermodels), but the label shuttered in 2003 following some financial difficulties. In recent years, however, the label has been revived and issued a new creative director, Rosemary Rodriguez.

DARK SHADOWS
Wednesday, September 8th, 2010Dark Shadows is a gothic soap opera that originally aired weekdays on the ABC television network, from June 27, 1966 to April 2, 1971. The series became hugely popular when, a year into its run, vampire Barnabas Collins, played by Jonathan Frid, appeared. In addition to vampires, Dark Shadows featured werewolves, ghosts, zombies, man-made monsters, witches, warlocks, time travel (both into the past and into the future), and a parallel universe. A small company of actors each played many roles and, as actors came and went, some characters were played by several actors. Major writers in addition to Art Wallace included Malcolm Marmorstein, who created the character of Barnabas Collins, Sam Hall, Gordon Russell, and Violet Welles.

NYC HISTORY: MUDD CLUB
Tuesday, September 7th, 2010The Mudd Club was named after Samuel Alexander Mudd, a doctor who treated John Wilkes Booth in the aftermath of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. It closed in New York in 1983.

Live performances included new wave, experimental music, literary icons Allen Ginsberg and William Burroughs, and catwalk exhibitions for emerging fashion designers Anna Sui and Jasper Conran.
From the start it functioned as an “amazing antidote to the uptown glitz of Studio 54 in the ’70s”. But as it became more frequented by downtown celebrities and a door policy was established it acquired a chic, often elitist reputation.
